English film actor, in origin – Scotsman (hence the pronunciation names are not according to the rules of English orthoepy), which for half a century he worked in Hollywood, focusing on the roles of British aristocrats with unchanged butterfly and rose in his buttonhole.
Niven was born in London in a family hero of World War I and a lot of youth rotated among senior officers, graduated from the military academy Sendhёrst. In early 1930, at the invitation of producer Samuel Goldwyn arrived in Hollywood, where initially stayed with his friend Errol Flynn. Appeared in small roles in such classic films as “Mutiny on the” Bounty “” (1935) and “The Charge of the Light Brigade” (1936).

Several of his autobiographical book became a bestseller (eg. The Moon’s a Baloon). Died at age 73 from a rare disease – Lou Gehrig’s syndrome.
